Hon. Mary Ann Sullivan, former State Representative, IN
Mary Ann Sullivan has worked to improve public education for more than twenty years. She currently serves as a consultant with the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis, an organization dedicated to improving student achievement, strengthening the quality of life, and encouraging economic development throughout the state of Indiana.
Mary Ann has worked extensively in the field of public charter schools, helping launch new schools, advising charter organizers, and promoting the charter sector at large. As an organizer for a statewide parent advocacy network, she was instrumental in helping to pass Indiana’s charter enabling legislation, served as director of the Charter School Resource Center of Indiana, and was the founding director of the first statewide charter school association.
As a two-term state representative in the Indian General Assembly (2009-2012), Mary Ann coauthored and sponsored bills expanding Indiana’s charter school law and dramatically changing teacher evaluation and licensure. She was the only Democrat who supported these reforms.
Mary Ann has a master's degree in public affairs from Indiana University, with a concentration in policy analysis and an emphasis on education policy. She is active in her community, serving on a number of nonprofit boards. Her passion for grassroots activism continues to fuel her commitment to improving education, the environment, and the overall quality of life in her community.
