Richardson's Education Plan A Snoozer
At least from what he is sayi
ng so far, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson's plans for education don't exactly knock your socks off, i.e. the revolution ain't gonna happen if we all pull the lever with his name next to it. (In his defense, it isn't like the others in the Democratic field are much better.)
Richardson is talking about expanding early education programs (good, but not revolutionary), instituting full-day Kingergarten (yawn), requring physical education (duh), and instituting a $40,000 minimum salary for teachers.
He also joins the list of politicians who argue that if the country can spend $400 million for the war in Iraq then we can afford to give every kid a college scholarship.
Governor, seems like we've skipped a step. We have to make sure American kids can handle going to college first. On that score, we're not even close.
But fear not Richardsonistas -- there's plenty of time to add some gusto to this extremely lame education agenda!
